Alluri Sitarama Raju

Biography

Alluri Sitarama Raju (1897 – 1924) was an Indian revolutionary involved in the Indian independence movement. He was born in the village of Pandrangi in the present-day West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Raju led the Rampa Rebellion, also known as the Rampa Revolt or the Alluri Rebellion, against the British Raj in the 1920s. He was inspired by the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and aimed to overthrow the British colonial rule in India.

Raju organized tribal people and peasants to revolt against the British authorities. He adopted guerilla warfare tactics and led several attacks on police stations, government offices, and British officials. His efforts gained significant attention and posed a challenge to British rule in the region.

Despite his efforts, Raju was eventually captured by the British forces on 7th May 1924. He was subsequently tied to a tree and executed by the British government. His sacrifice and bravery made him a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement, and he is remembered as a hero in Indian history.
