Veerapandiya Kattabomman was born on January 3, 1760, in Panchalankurichi, Tamil Nadu, India.
Kattabomman was a Palayakarrar, or a Polygar, in the region of Panchalankurichi. He fiercely resisted the British East India Company's attempt to annex his territory and pay taxes to them.
He was captured by the British in 1799 and sentenced to death. On October 16, 1799, Veerapandiya Kattabomman was hanged to death in Kayattar.
Veerapandiya Kattabomman is remembered as a symbol of resistance against British colonialism in Tamil Nadu. His valor and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.
